Unimed Recife's experience in treating 1,039 patients with Covid-19

ObjectiveTo describe the features related to patients with Covid-19 admitted Unimed Recife hospitals, Recife, Brazil, evaluating demographic data, lethality, use of a mechanical ventilator, presence associated diseases, need ICU, among other aspects prognosis these patients.MethodData were collected from DRG Brazil health management platform, including period March 16, 2020, when first patient was Hospital da III, until January 31, 2021. All one three hospitals - I, and Geral – included in study. In same period, we evaluated number or suspected who seen emergency room at III.ResultsOne hundred twenty-six thousand five fifty-three Emergency Unit III between 26, 2021; those 126,553 39,340 (31.09%) diagnosed having Covid-19. 10-month 1,039 hospitalized, 61% hypertension, 31.1% SARS, 30.0% diabetes, 9.9% obese. The average hospital stay 11.2 days. 342/1,039 (32.9%) 57.9% them had ventilation. overall lethality 13.76% (143 deaths/1,039 inpatients). An increase by increased age. Lethality pandemic significantly higher compared last 5 months pandemic(17.6% versus 9.7%). Obesity [120 deaths/1,016 non-obese (11.8%) 23 deaths/103 obese (22.3%), OR 2.15 (1.30 3.50), p = 0.005)].ConclusionWe conclude that is disease poor prognosis, especially elderly patients. second 5-month pandemic, noticed significant reduction hospitalized new mechanism which viruses multiply how pathophysiological process occurs infected organism are still barely understood.
